Sigma

Who are we?

Founded in 1961 by Michihiro Yamaki, Sigma is a Japanese company specializing in the manufacture of lenses and cameras. Still independent and family-owned, it is now led by his son, Kazuto Yamaki, who continues a philosophy centered on quality, innovation, and artisanal excellence.

All production takes place in Japan. The headquarters are located in Kanagawa, and the company’s sole manufacturing facility is based in Aizu, in Fukushima Prefecture. Since 1973, this site has brought together every stage of development: optical engineering, assembly, quality control, as well as component manufacturing and sourcing. This integrated structure ensures technical consistency, responsiveness, and a high level of precision.

Rooted in the Tohoku region, Sigma maintains deep ties with the local community. This connection contributes to the development of regional expertise and supports the continuous transmission of skills at the heart of its industrial process.

Each lens, camera, and accessory is designed to meet the highest standards. For over sixty years, Sigma has supported photographers and filmmakers around the world by providing reliable, high-performance, and durable tools.

The brand promotes a vision of photography as a free, personal, and universal form of expression. Through its products, it seeks to give everyone the means to convey their vision of the world with accuracy, subtlety, and creativity.

Why support the festival?

Partnering with La Gacilly and supporting this initiative is a natural choice for Sigma, as we share with the festival a deep attachment to place and to the people who live there. Just as the festival draws its strength and uniqueness from its Breton roots and its connection to nature, Sigma derives its expertise and distinctiveness from the Aizu valley, at the foot of the Japanese mountains. This respect for place, the environment, and the communities that inhabit it lies at the heart of our manufacturing process and our approach as a family-run company.

For over sixty years, Sigma has been committed to providing photographers with high-precision tools to express their vision of the world. Being a partner of the festival is also an extension of this commitment: enabling these perspectives to be shared, understood, and experienced by a wide audience, in a dialogue between art, the public, and the environment.

Terres Oubliées - Voyages

Terres Oubliées and Escursia are part of the same group and share a common vision of travel: a thoughtful exploration of the world, rooted in immersion, knowledge, and respect for local environments. For more than twenty years, our two brands have each developed their own approach with the same level of commitment, now brought together within a shared project.

We design adventure and wildlife observation journeys in small groups, guided by passionate experts. Whether it’s trekking in remote regions, naturalist trips, or discoveries with strong cultural and scientific dimensions, we prioritize experiences where time slows down, where encounters gain meaning, and where learning is as important as the journey itself. This commitment is also reflected in long-term partnerships, notably with the LPO (League for the Protection of Birds), with whom we share a deep dedication to biodiversity conservation.

We explore the world differently.
We travel where roads fade, where maps become uncertain, where nature still sets the pace. From Upper Dolpo to Greenland, from the steppes of Central Asia to the volcanoes of the Andes and Auvergne, we design journeys that invite travelers to slow down, observe, and understand—whether in distant lands or closer to home in France, where diverse landscapes offer rich local discoveries.

We share a common belief: travel is a way to open perspectives, while maintaining deep respect for the places we visit and the people who live there. In the field, we witness both the beauty and diversity of our planet, as well as its fragility—retreating ice, shifting natural balances, evolving cultures. These are realities we experience firsthand and strive to convey with accuracy and sensitivity.

This is precisely what connects us to the Festival Photo La Gacilly. Through photography, the festival reveals the world as it truly is: powerful, vulnerable, and ever-changing. It highlights those who document these transformations with both sensitivity and rigor. By supporting it, we extend our commitment: encouraging a more conscious, attentive, and respectful way of seeing.

Because traveling, like photography, always begins with learning how to see.
